Student Medical Incident

Updated: Jan 17

Good Evening John Lewis Families,

At John Lewis, we are committed to the safety and well-being of all our students. Communicating about incidents that occur during the school day is essential to maintaining strong partnerships with families. During recess, around 12:25 p.m. today, a student experienced a medical emergency that resulted in DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) being called to our building. We quickly and safely relocated other students away from that area of the playground so that FEMS could evaluate the student. The student was quickly assisted and transported with their caregiver for further medical attention. We wish our fellow scholar a speedy recovery.

I want to acknowledge the potential worry witnessing a schoolmate in distress could have on our students. The John Lewis Wellness Team, including our social worker, Ms. Abujudeh, Counselor, Ms. Paige, and Psychologist, Dr. Dorn, are available to talk to students who need time and space to process. Please reach out to our team if your student needs to be connected.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at (202) 576-6226 or at Nikeysha.Jackson@k12.dc.gov if you have any concerns or questions.

In partnership,

Principal Jackson
